Here at Camp Monaco

We have been in Harrisburg, OR since Sunday 6/26. We brought the coach to Monaco Service Center for warranty work and will probably be here through next week. This week they did all the small stuff and next week the motorhome goes to the paint shop to fix the blemish on the big slide. We call it "Camp Monaco" since they have a campground for us with activities everyday in the service center. Free laundry (6 each washers and dryers). No park fees and a nice camp area with 50amp, water and dump on site, so we don't mind the stay. It is nicer than the one in Elkhart, In that we stayed in a few days last August. No pictures this entry. Hugs, Sandy & Ed

Columbia River Gorge

Today we drove 168 miles along the Columbia River Gorge between the states of Washington and Oregon. This area is famous for its water falls...77 on the Oregon side alone. Trouble is many of them are only accessible by hiking trails. We visited the ones we could that were along the road. Lewis and Clark traveled this river in 1805 and archaeological digs show humans were fishing for salmon here more that 10,000 years ago. This area is awesome. If you ever get to this area it is truly worth your time to take the drive between Portland and The Dalles in Oregon. We traveled State Route 14 on the Washington Side and State Route 30 on the Oregon Side.

This picture was taken from the Crown Point State Park, 733 feet above the Columbia River. The Vista House which is in the next picture is at this site. Posted by Hello

Multnomah Falls. The second highest year-round waterfall in the US. It is two-tiered and drops 620 feet. The Benson Bridge(in the picture) was built in 1914. Posted by Hello

This is the Grays Harbor Lighthouse built in 1897 in Westport, WA. When it was built it was 300 ft from the ocean. At the same time the harbor jetty was built. The jetty changed the sand pattern along the coast and the lighthouse is now 3000 ft from the ocean. It is still in use. Posted by Hello

We drove to Sequim (that is pronounced like Scha-wim) today to find the Dungeness lighthouse. We found it and had to use the 10x to get this picture. Posted by Hello

Our first stop in Washington State

Hi. We arrived in Washington State today. We are staying at the Mt Saint Helen RV park just outside of Castle Rock, WA. . We took the 47 mile drive on 504 to the Johnson Ridge Observatory to view Mt Saint Helen and see if there was any activity today. The weather was very overcast and the very top was in the clouds. The volcano became "active" again last fall and they just reopened JRO on May 6. We were 3 miles from the base of the volcano when we took the pictures. That is as close as they will let anyone get right now. They say that the new lava dome is still growing, but not like it did in 1980. Tomorrow we will leave this area and drive to Bremerton, Wa, just across the bay from Seattle. This is really beautiful country. Hugs, Sandy & Ed
